AS&H’s wooden construction-based plan of a complex of star-shaped apartment buildings and terraced houses that are built on top of car parks won a design competition organised for developing the scenically important Sävelpuisto area. With the plan, Sävelpuisto will be developed in cooperation with NCC into a gate, which will blend into the landscape, where the wooden construction will naturally link the cultural landscape of Tuusulanjärvi with the city centre.
The starting point for massing the block was to make the boundary between the built environment and the landscape overlapping, and to make the street facade variable and interesting with the star-like shape of the buildings and to open the views in several directions. At the same time, the facades in different directions create a rich variation of light and shadow. Moderately rising and falling roofs make the silhouette fit well into the landscape.
Massaging also creates varied and sheltered outdoor spaces and creates a series of common yards in the block. The store in the block is located on the ground floor of the southernmost residential apartment building, where it is intertwined into the block, enriching the ground level of the buildings and at the same time freeing up outdoor space.
More space has been gained in the interior of the block by building the terraced house on top of the parking facility. This has created a new kind of content and novelty value for terraced housing. The terraced houses that have been raised have long views and the courtyards are situated one floor up, in their own peace.
